Cancellation & refund policy

Effective from 15 April 2026. This policy applies to all bookings made on RideShareSA.

For renters — cancellation tiers
Refund amounts depend on how far in advance you cancel before the trip start date.
When you cancelRefundDetails
Before paymentNo chargeBookings in "Pending Payment" can be cancelled freely — no money has been collected.
48+ hours before tripFull refund100% of the booking amount is refunded. Card payments are reversed automatically; EFT refunds are processed within 5–7 business days.
24–48 hours before trip50% refundHalf the booking amount is refunded. The remaining 50% compensates the host for the short-notice cancellation.
Less than 24 hours / during tripNo refundCancellations within 24 hours of the trip start or after the trip has begun are not eligible for a refund.

Processing fees charged by payment providers (Yoco, bank fees) are non-refundable in all cases.

For hosts
How cancellations affect your earnings.
  • If a renter cancels 48+ hours before the trip, you receive no payout for that booking.
  • If a renter cancels 24–48 hours before, you receive 50% of the booking amount as compensation.
  • If a renter cancels within 24 hours or during the trip, you receive the full booking amount.
  • Hosts who cancel confirmed bookings may face listing suspension and a R250 penalty per cancellation. Contact support if you have a legitimate emergency.
How refunds work

  • Card payments (Yoco): Refunds are initiated automatically and typically appear on your statement within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
  • EFT payments: Refunds are processed manually via bank transfer within 5–7 business days after the cancellation is approved.
  • No refund will exceed the original amount paid.
Disputes
When you disagree with an outcome.

If you believe a cancellation or refund decision is incorrect, open a support ticket within 7 days of the cancellation. Include your booking ID and a brief explanation.

Our team may request additional evidence (messages, photos, receipts). Disputes are typically resolved within 3 business days.
